Cats

Welcome back!

For years I have heard about “Cats.”  I’ve heard it is one the longest running Broadway (and London) shows ever.  When we heard the production was coming to the Captiol Theater in Salt Lake City Natalie and I thought it might be fun to finally go and see the production.  My Mom’s birthday was coming up and we thought, hey, that would be fun to take her to see the show with us… so, Natalie got some tickets (right down in front) and we were all set.

Well, here we sit at intermission looking at each other with confused looks. Both Natalie and I looked at each other and said, “I don’t get it.”  I guess there is some deep meaning that high-brow theater-goers get out of it but we seemed to be missing it.  It was mildly entertaining and there were a few engaging moments, but on the whole we didn’t think it was very compelling.

We did get lucky though and our ticket purchases were not a total waste… sitting right in front of us was a woman who just absolutely LOVED the performance.  She was VERY enthusiastic; whenever the audience applauded she almost jumped out of her seat as she pounded her hands together.  As the event was drawing to a close, and I got more and more excited to leave, the woman in front of us was just sobing; tears streaming down her face she litterally JUMPED out of her seat at the closing moment as if to say that she was responsible for the standing ovation that followed.  All I can say is, “wow.”  As we left I told Natalie, “Well, we got two shows for the price of one!”  That lady was the only thing that made the evening bearable!

Timpanogos Storytelling Festival

Natalie and I went to the story telling festival tonight and really enjoyed it. This is the 3rd year that we have gone and I think it is becoming a tradition. Some of the tellers we really liked tonight were Kevin Kling, Victoria Burnett, Bill Harley, Carmen Deedy and Rex Ellis. I am looking forward to the big “laugh-in” Saturday night at the Scera outdoor theater! Here are a few pictures…
